The Black Belt
|
|
When a student first steps into a dojo his or her goal is to become a black belt and to learn how to fight. But as time goes by the wise student learns that his/her training isn't just about becoming a better fighter, but is also about becoming a better person by developing honor and dignity. This has traditionally been the goal of the martial arts student who perseveres through the long and hard work and most important, self discipline, that it takes to become a black belt. Every student that walks through the door of a karate dojo has the potential to become a black belt, the difference is only those who have the courage and perseverance to remain on the path reach that ultimate goal.

My son Blake showed an interest in karate when he was 4 1/2. We signed him up when he was 5 so that he would learn how to defend himself if need be. Karate turned out to be so much more for Blake....he has learned (and is still learning) self discipline, self control, the ability to take direction, and respect for others, to name a few.
Over the course of Blake taking karate, I decided to start taking classes too. I love every minute of class even when it's tough. I am 34 years old but am stronger than I have ever been and more physically fit. I am working towards my black belt (hopefully one day) and aspire to be a positive role model for others who think they can't do something because they are not teenagers anymore.
Jim Kelly and everyone else at karate have become an extension of our family. We feel very lucky to be a part of Cape Coral Karate and look forward to many years to come!
Thanks Sensei!
