Cape Coral Karate were represented very well by a large group of students from the dojo at the recent Florida State Championships in North Port, FL on Saturday, April 30th. The competition was of very high standard but our students did very well in all three events. The way the groupings were made, it meant that students could be competing against other students who were not only a higher rank, but also a few years older. Although it was great to see our students leave with a lot of medals of a variety of colors, what was most pleasing was the manner in how our students competed and gave their all. So congratulations to everybody that competed, and a big thank you for the parents and siblings who came along to support our team.

Character

Ability and character go hand in hand for one to be successful. While your ability will get you short-term success, your character will enable you to continue being successful. Your character will also determine how you handle success. Character is not the same as behavior. Behavior is the fruit, product or symptom of your character. Character is the ability to act with integrity, objectivity, and compassion in actions, decisions, and with other people in difficult challenges and good times.

Our son Christian has been part of the Cape Coral Isshinryu family since October of 2004. He started martial arts in Miami when he was 3 years old. In 2002, we moved to Cape Coral and started our search for dojos in our area that would provide our son with the knowledge of martial arts, self-defense, discipline, respect but most importantly the ability to focus and complete tasks. After a two year search we found Cape Coral Isshinryu which exceeded our expectations. Sensei Kelly and his team of black belts welcomed our son with open arms and have helped him through his struggles while building his self-confidence. Christian has shown great improvements with his ability to focus and complete tasks at home and school. We never thought he would be able to remember his first kata. Christian is now a junior black belt and has every intention to become a full black belt one day. Sensei Kelly and his black belts have become role models for our son. We are very grateful and have been blessed that our son has found a home away from home.
